Ingrown hairs/razor bumps are common among African American males. They are caused from hair that grows out and curls back underneath the skin. It is a very nagging and often times very painful problem. There are many different products and opinions on how to treat razor bumps. We suggest a simple four step solution that will sooth your symptoms and get you back on track to having a clear, smooth, and pain free face.
Step 1: Apply a hot towel to the infected area for 30-60 seconds. This will open the pores and help free the hairs from being trapped underneath the skin.
Step 2: Use an exfoliant that contains salicylic acid. This will remove dead skins cells, kill bacteria, and help further free the remaining hairs that are caught underneath the skin.
Step 3: Apply a razor bump cream or ointment that contains tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and anti-bacterial agent that will help heal existing razor bumps and prevent new ones.
Step 4: Shave more often. Remember that razor bumps are caused from hairs that grow out and then curl back underneath the skin. So the key to this step is to shave the hair off before it has a chance to curl back underneath the skin. Shaving every day or every other day will significantly reduce the amount of razor bumps that develop.
By following these steps, you will be back on track to living an enjoyable bump free life.
